Artist Biography
Hea-Mi Kim
Hea-Mi Kim (b. 1993) is an artist from Detroit, MI and is currently based in Los Angeles, CA. Her practice involves distilling memory into a subtle, minimal composition of unadorned shapes and muted fields of color painted on wood panel. Each painting possesses a unique set of holes cut by hand. These negatives spaces are filled with an amalgamation of materials such as sandpaper, mylar, and different kinds of handmade paper. The leftover materials are reused in small-scale collages.
Hea-Mi Kim received a BFA from Parsons School of Design (2018) and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles (2021). Her work has been exhibited in galleries including Sidecar, Los Angeles (2024); Móran Móran, Los Angeles (2023); Artist Curated Projects, Los Angeles (2023); and Central Server Works, Los Angeles (2023). Williams Street will be Hea-Mi Kim’s first solo exhibition.
